Description
The Tasman 10W Low Glare LED Downlight is a premium 90mm recessed downlight designed for Australian homes and commercial interiors where visual comfort, high-quality light and precise illumination matter. Its deeply recessed COB LED, precision reflector and controlled 60° beam angle help reduce direct glare while delivering up to 900 lumens of high-quality CRI 90+ illumination.
Unlike conventional flat downlights with a highly visible light source, the Tasman positions the LED deeper inside the fitting. This creates a refined architectural appearance while helping shield the LED from direct view. With 5CCT selectable colour temperatures, full dimming capability, an IC-4 insulation rating and IP44 protection, the Tasman is a versatile low glare lighting solution for new homes, renovations and commercial projects.
Why Choose a Low Glare Downlight?
Standard flat or “pancake” LED downlights generally position the LED close to the face of the fitting. While they provide broad general illumination, the bright light source can be more noticeable when viewed from below.
A low glare downlight positions the light source deeper within the fitting. The Tasman combines a deeply recessed COB LED with precision optics and a 60° controlled beam, helping reduce direct visibility of the LED while directing light where it is needed.
This makes low glare downlights particularly suited to kitchens, living rooms, bedrooms, hallways, dining areas, home offices and other spaces where comfortable, controlled lighting is preferred.
Tasman Low Glare vs Standard Downlights
| Feature | Tasman Low Glare | Typical Flat Downlight |
|---|---|---|
| LED Position | Deeply recessed | Closer to surface |
| Glare Control | Designed to reduce direct glare | Less shielding of light source |
| Beam | 60° controlled beam | Typically broader beam |
| Colour Rendering | CRI >90 | Varies by model |
| Colour Selection | 5CCT selectable | Varies by model |
5CCT Selectable – Five Colour Temperatures in One Downlight
Choose the colour temperature that best suits each room or project. The Tasman incorporates 5CCT selectable technology, allowing you to choose from five colour temperatures:
- 2700K Extra Warm White – soft and relaxing for bedrooms, lounges and intimate spaces.
- 3000K Warm White – warm, welcoming illumination for residential living areas.
- 4000K Cool White – balanced functional lighting for kitchens, bathrooms and work areas.
- 5000K Natural White – crisp, clear illumination for task-oriented spaces.
- 6500K Daylight – bright daylight-style illumination where maximum visual clarity is preferred.
CRI 90+ for More Accurate Colour
With a Colour Rendering Index greater than 90 (CRI 90+), the Tasman reproduces colours, finishes and textures more naturally than lower-CRI lighting. This makes it particularly useful in kitchens, bathrooms, retail environments, wardrobes, artwork areas and interiors where colour quality matters.
Smooth, Fully Dimmable Lighting
Adjust the Tasman from bright functional lighting to softer ambient illumination. The downlight is designed for compatibility with TRIAC, C-Bus, Leading Edge and Trailing Edge dimmers, providing excellent lighting flexibility across residential and commercial installations.

Frequently Asked Questions About Low Glare Downlights
What is a low glare downlight?
A low glare downlight positions the LED light source deeper inside the fitting so it is less directly visible from normal viewing angles. The Tasman uses a deeply recessed COB LED, precision reflector and controlled 60° beam to provide comfortable, focused illumination.
What is the difference between a low glare and standard downlight?
Standard flat downlights typically position the light source close to the ceiling surface and provide broad general illumination. Low glare downlights recess the light source deeper into the fitting to reduce its direct visibility and provide more controlled light.
Are low glare downlights good for kitchens?
Yes. Low glare downlights are particularly effective in kitchens because their controlled beam can be positioned over islands, benchtops and work areas. The Tasman's CRI 90+ light also provides excellent colour reproduction for food, surfaces and finishes.
Are low glare downlights suitable for bedrooms?
Yes. A deeply recessed light source can provide greater visual comfort in bedrooms because the bright LED is less directly visible when looking towards the ceiling or lying in bed.
What ceiling cut-out does the Tasman require?
The Tasman requires a 90mm ceiling cut-out and has an overall diameter of 100mm.
What colour temperatures does the Tasman provide?
The Tasman provides 2700K Extra Warm White, 3000K Warm White, 4000K Cool White, 5000K Natural White and 6500K Daylight from one 5CCT selectable downlight.
Is the Tasman low glare downlight dimmable?
Yes. The Tasman is designed for compatibility with TRIAC, C-Bus, Leading Edge and Trailing Edge dimming systems.
Does the Tasman have a high CRI?
Yes. The Tasman has a CRI greater than 90, helping colours, furnishings, food, artwork and interior finishes appear more natural and accurate.
Can the Tasman be used in a bathroom?
The Tasman is IP44 rated and can be used in appropriate bathroom applications when installed in accordance with applicable Australian electrical requirements.
Is the Tasman IC-4 rated?
Yes. The Tasman carries an IC-4 insulation rating and should be installed in accordance with its installation instructions and applicable Australian electrical requirements.
